06.11.2017 - The Ministry of Finance of Georgia has been working on a draft law to set new regulations on gambling. Introducing the law will raise the legal age limit for gambling to 21, which will restrict thousands of Georgian citizens from all types of gambling, including online casinos and lottery. The official document further clarifies that the law will positively affect the population, as it will act as a restricting factor for youth.

07.11.2017 - Tbilisi City Court sentenced a lawyer and member of the opposition United National Movement’s political council to a term of four years and six months after finding him guilty of abuse of power and falsification of evidence. Giorgi Oniani was arrested in the courtroom right after the decision was announced on November 7. The opposition says Oniani’s detention is based on political motives.

In Honor of President Margvelashvili Official Lunch has been held in Warsaw. Presidents of Georgia and Poland have made toasts for strengthening friendship and partnership between the two countries. As part of his official visit to Poland, the President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has taken part in Warsaw Security Forum as a special guest. President Margvelashvili has personally invited President Duda to Georgia to participate in ceremonial events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Georgian statehood on May 26, 2018.

08.11.2017 - The European Parliament proposes new ways to intensify EU relations with Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova ahead of the Eastern Partnership Summit on 24 November. Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova are working hard to forge closer links with the EU, in spite of strong resistance from Russia. They already benefit from visa-free travel to the EU as well as increased commercial opportunities thanks to free-trade agreements.

A new Parliament report is now calling to deepen this collaboration further and find new ways to support the countries on the EU’s eastern borders. The own-initiative report has already been adopted by the foreign affairs committee and will be voted on by all MEPs during the November plenary session in Strasbourg. The main focus is on Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, three countries which have recently achieved major progress in the cooperation with the EU.

08.11.2017 - The US has given six more service dogs to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, as part of the Project K9 training for detecting drug trafficking, the MIA says. The official closing ceremony of the cynological program ‘K9’ took place at Tbilisi International Airport today.

09.11.2017 - The fragments of the Berlin Wall were installed on the European Square as a symbol for restoration of territorial integrity of Georgia indicating that everything is possible and the main thing is patience. The event was attended by the Prime Minister. The part of the wall was handed over to Giorgi Kvirkashvili during his official visit to Germany as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.

09.11.2017 - The opposition asks The Strasbourg Court to abolish the results of the self-government elections . Non-parliamentary opposition parties will discuss the text of a joint appeal and the action plan with the parliamentary opposition. The Leadership Council discusses the appeal at the moment.

09.11.2017 - The EU releases a statement on Georgia and expresses its concern over the illegal presence of Russian military in the breakaway regions of Georgia. The statement emphasizes the increasing number of military exercises and the strengthening of infrastructure. In addition, the concern is expressed that despite the constant appeal of the international community, the situation in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali is still worsening.

The EU calls on Russia to comply with the 2008 Agreement and ensure the accession of the monitoring mission in the regions. The EU is concerned over the strengthening of the so-called borderization process due to the destruction of houses in the village of Eredvi damaged by the war and new rules introduced in Gali, which further aggravate local population`s already limited access to basic rights and services.

09.11.2017 - Head of Georgia’s Supreme Court and Supreme Council of Justice Nino Gvenetadze held a meeting with judges concerning the regulation of appointment for lifetime. Gvenetadze signed decree on appointment of 34 judges for lifetime:

“The meeting was aimed at finding out viewpoints on the provisions of the relevant law on appointment of judges for lifetime and elaboration of a joint position as a result. The Supreme Council members, judges and participants were provided with the viewpoints. They agreed that the judges and public will be informed on the proposal regarding appointment of the judges whose term is determined by 3 years for lifetime. At the end of the meeting, the Supreme Council Head signed the decision by the Council concerning appointment of 34 judges for lifetime”, - reports the press-release.
