Zaza Okuashvili: Iberia TV made no deals with the previous government!

Zaza Okuashvili, founder of Omega Group and member of the Adjarian Supreme Council from the Patriots’ Alliance party, has attended the legal authority’s first meeting since being granted his post. At the meeting, members representing the National Movement party unfurled a banner in support of Rustavi 2 TV, which was followed by an objection from Council member Nino Chkhetiani, who said that unfurling such a banner in a room with Zaza Okuashvili was a poor tone.

“On February 19 2004, it was precisely the previous government that raided offices of Iberia TV and Omega Group,” Chkhetiani remarked.

“The highest ranking representatives of the previous government were involved in the Iberia TV case,” Okuashvili commented to journalists after the meeting.

“The same people that are so actively involved with the Rustavi 2 case now were just as actively involved in the Iberia TV case then. The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating this case and I hope we’ll all see the results soon. Therefore, I do not want to violate the presumption of innocence by pointing fingers, but the highest officials of the old government worked in accord on that affair. It is precisely the actions of this group that have inflicted upon Rustavi 2 TV the conditions in which it finds itself at the moment,” added Okuashvili, saying that Iberia TV has never made a deal with the previous government and that’s his reason for being where he is today.
